Sun 06/07 Wire 8:00pm All Ages
Right from their inception in 1976, back in the first stirrings of punk, Wire went about making music in a subversive, conceptual way, setting themselves apart from both their peers and their influences. “I had this idea that I wanted to avoid things that had a particular kind of tradition,” explains singer and guitarist Colin Newman. “I thought the three-chord trick was too simplistic and that the one-chord trick would be better. Or the two chord trick where the second chord is definitely not the right chord.”

Sat 06/13 Soul Asylum / Meat Puppets 7:30pm All Ages
Formed in the summer of 1981, Soul Asylum (named Loud Fast Rules up until 1983) quickly became frontrunners of American college rock, garnering a reputation as the country's best LIVE band. In 1992, they signed with Columbia Records and released Grave Dancers Union, a record that would transform them from underground rockers into international superstars. The first two singles off the album, Somebody to Shove and Black Gold, both came in at high positions at the Modern Rock and Album Rock charts, but it was the album's third track that led them to their major breakthrough. Runaway Train peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, raised album sales to double-platinum level, and won Soul Asylum the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song in 1994.
For over 30 years, legendary desert punks the Meat Puppets have carved a unique niche for themselves with an unmistakable blend of cosmic country and punk rock filtered through countless acid trips, dog-eared comic books and their eclectic record collections. Along the way they’ve earned the admiration of a pantheon of critics and rock music peers. The certified classics reach back to Meat Puppets I, II, and Up On The Sun and have been book-ended by recent releases Sewn Together and Lollipop. With brothers Curt and Cris Kirkwood reunited in 2009 and the 2012 release of the band’s graphic tell-all biography, Too High to Die, the Puppets’ iconic status seems assured.

Thu 06/18 91.3 WYEP presents Heartless Bastards - Restless Ones Tour with special guest Craig Finn 9:00pm All Ages
Brimming with confidence and creativity, Arrow sees Heartless Bastards pushing their distinctive sound forward with their most eclectic, energetic collection thus far. The album – the Austin, Texas-based band’s first release with Partisan Records – is marked as ever by singer/guitarist/songwriter Erika Wennerstrom’s remarkable voice, at turns primal and pleading, heartfelt and heroic. Songs like “Parted Ways” and the searing “Low Low Low” expertly capture the Bastards’ multi-dimensional rock in all its strength and spirit. Following upon the difficult introspection of 2009’s acclaimed third album, The Mountain, Arrow stands as a powerhouse new beginning for Heartless Bastards.

Fri 06/19 Paul Weller 9:00pm All Ages
Continuing his ever soaring creative peak, Paul Weller releases his 12th studio album “Saturns Pattern” on May 11th on his new label Parlophone. The follow up to 2012’s No. 1 album “Sonik Kicks”, Paul continues to push the boundaries with another kaleidoscopic tour de force delivered with a verve and ambition to shame his contemporaries as he continues to adapt and evolve to stay one step ahead of the pack. Written and recorded at de facto HQ, Black Barn Studios in Surrey, “Saturns Pattern” was produced by Jan “Stan” Kybert and Paul himself. Passion, progression, languid grooves and, as ever, spine-tingling rock’n’roll – Paul Weller has, yet again, delivered another masterpiece.
