Thu 09/11 IronCityRocks.com presents Skeletonwitch with special guests Ghoul, Black Anvil, Lady Beast 7:30pm All Ages
“SKELETONWITCH has been called every name in the fucking book: death metal, black metal, thrash metal, speed metal, heavy metal, epic viking blackened thrash ‘n’ roll, and so on. It seems the only description everyone can agree on is ‘metal,’” says guitarist Scott Hedrick, “and that suits us just fine.” Indeed. Like Satan himself set loose in the hallowed halls of heavy metal, these Athens, Ohio-based headbangers careen wildly through the music’s history, gleefully destroying and setting flame to every genre along the way, only stopping at the forefront of today’s metal scene to look back and watch that fucker burn — and then piss on the flames. No other band has tapped into the fire, fury, and frost of all things metal like SKELETONWITCH.

Sat 09/13 Bell X1 with special guest Gabriel Kahane (Reduced Capacity Seated Show) 8:00pm All Ages
Second only to U2 as Ireland's most popular rock band, Bell X1 crafts a tight, melodic pop sound that calls to mind pre-electronic Radiohead and the more sedate side of Coldplay. Having recorded albums with the likes of Nick Seymour (Crowded House) and Roger Béchirian (Elvis Costello), the band is best known for its ability to craft infectious, durable, radio-friendly hooks with strong production values. Although officially formed in Celbridge, County Kildare, in 1999, the group's roots stretch back to the birth of Juniper in 1991. Formed straight out of school by eccentric singer Dodi Ma (better known by his given name Damien Rice), drummer Paul Noonan, keyboardist Brian Crosby, and bassist Dominic Philips, Juniper started out playing cover songs at weddings and other private functions around the nation's capital. After the addition of another school friend, guitarist David Geraghty, the band's focus shifted toward original music. Noted as one of the most exciting live acts around, Juniper's reputation grew rapidly and, following the release of two self-financed EPs, they signed a staggering six-album deal with Polygram Ireland in 1997. -AllMusic.com

Sun 09/14 Senses Fail: Let It Enfold You 10 Year Anniversary Tour with special guests No Bragging Rights, To The Wind, Knuckle Puck 7:00pm All Ages
Just a few seconds of Renacer (3/26/13), the latest full-length by Ridgewood, NJ’s Senses Fail, is about all it takes to grasp the title, which when translated from Spanish, means “to be reborn.” Without question, the album captures the band at a sonic crossroads, literally redefining themselves, while furiously etching a bold and entirely unexpected new chapter for Senses Fail. Boasting a significantly heavier and more musically adventurous sound than past releases, Renacer is a reflection of the band in 2013, in terms of both creative interests and current personnel. After more than a decade of existence and multiple lineup changes, singer Buddy Nielsen said the band now has the freedom and desire to embrace change.

Wed 09/17 Panda Bear with special guests Blues Control 8:00pm All Ages
Both as a member of Animal Collective and as the solo artist, Panda Bear, Noah Lennox spent the aughts helping redefine the aesthetics and methodology of experimental and independent music. With work ranging from splayed but lyrical noise, florid acoustic arrangements, and guitar-centric psychedelia, he and his bandmates have covered a vast musical territory that blurs the line between pop and experimentalism. But while Panda Bear and Animal Collective have garnered acclaim with each successive sonic venture, their music really started to take hold when they began working with electronics. In 2007, Lennox released the milestone Person Pitch, a mélange of loopy samples, ethereal textures, and dubby echoesall bound together by his soulful tenor. Hailed by many as an instant classic, the album’s influence was almost immediately recognizable. He continued work with Animal Collective, releasing another landmark album Merriweather Post Pavilion in 2009.

Fri 09/19 The Harlan Twins with Satin Gum, Kid Durango - Partial proceeds benefits the Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center 9:00pm All Ages
Any Pittsburgh-based rocker is likely familiar with the Harlan Twins by now. The band not only strikes a balance between yinzer-americana and anthemic 1970’s rock n’ roll, but they’re also an party-hearty group that’ll get you dancing or, if anything, encourage some whiskey-influenced head nodding.
Satin Gum is an American power pop/alternative rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania consisting of songwriter Brian Spekis (Vocals, Guitar), Jonathan Gunnell (Guitar, Backing Vocals), Travis Craig (Bass), and Dan Vavro (Drums, Backing Vocals).
Kid Durango is a five piece band from Pittsburgh playing next level grunge with a sour punk aftertaste.

Sat 09/20 Pomplamoose with special guests Danielle Ate The Sandwich, John Schroeder 9:00pm All Ages
Pioneering the style of “VideoSongs” on YouTube, Pomplamoose is a San Francisco-based indie-pop-rock-duo comprised of Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn. With the debut of their online presence in summer 2008, Pomplamoose (a derivation of the French word for grapefruit, pamplemousse) has garnered a significant fan following ever since. Often compared to artists like The Bird and The Bee, Feist and Regina Spektor, they quickly became renowned for their split-screen video-editing that deliberately features every instrument used in the recording process. In 2010, they released their first viral VideoSong, a cover of Beyoncé’s Single Ladies, followed by a national Hyundai holiday ad campaign and two sold-out nationwide tours. Pomplamoose took a break from the band in 2011 to focus on their solo careers. In 2013, the artists reunited to begin creating new material for Pomplamoose Season 2. This next stage of Pomplamoose promises to stay true to the band’s homegrown roots while incorporating new visual elements and a more electronic sound. Veering away from the traditional model, Pomplamoose remains unsigned to this day, successfully making a living from album sales, licensing deals, touring, and the enthusiastic support of their fans.

Sun 09/21 POSTPONED TO OCT 13 - OK Go [all 9/21 tix honored] 8:00pm All Ages
Of all the superlatives ever thrown at OK Go, “world’s most creative band” might fit best. Theirs is a project of the modern age, defined by vision as opposed to boundaries. It starts with a growing canon of infectious songs (the band’s fourth album is forthcoming), and explodes out from there into a million creative endeavors: their videos are art projects that the whole world sees; their live shows are immersive and surprising; their free time is invested in apps and op-eds and a host of other experiments that all fall under fun, ambitious, or just really cool to try.

Thu 09/25 St. Lucia: The Night Comes Again Tour with special guest Joywave 9:00pm All Ages
Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Jean-Philip Grobler grew up performing with the Drakensberg Boys Choir School, learning everything from Bach to minimalist opera. St. Lucia was born out of a moment in early 2010 when Grobler was looking to the past for inspiration. Growing frustrated with a rock project that was starting to feel forced, he delved back into the music that had first inspired him: Fleetwood Mac, Peter Gabriel, Madonna and other songs from his youth.

Sat 09/27 91.3 WYEP presents The Afghan Whigs with special guest Joseph Arthur 8:00pm All Ages
"Do to the Beast" is the first new album by The Afghan Whigs in over a decade and a half. Founded in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1988, the band has long stood out from its peers, with their savage, rapturous blend of hard rock, classic soul, and frontman Greg Dulli's searing obsessions. The new album serves as both a homecoming -- it marks their return to Sub Pop, for whom the Whigs were the first signing from outside the label's Northwest base -- and a glimpse into the future of one of the most acclaimed bands of the past thirty years.
