Sat 04/04 Earl Sweatshirt - Not Redy 2 Leave Tour with special guests Vince Staples, Remy Banks 8:00pm All Ages
Born Thebe Kgositsile, Earl Sweatshirt is a Los Angeles-based rapper and member of the Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) crew. Following in the footsteps of Eminem, Natas, and Esham, his languid style is a blend of highly personal alt-rap and morbid horrorcore. In 2010 he released his Earl mixtape to critical acclaim before mysteriously going on hiatus later that year. It was subsequently revealed that Kgositsile had been sent to a Samoan boarding school by his mother during this period. He returned to L.A. at age 18, determined to build on the success of Earl, and he ultimately signed a deal with Columbia Records, enabling him to issue material on the major label through his own Tan Cressida imprint. Ahead of November 2012's "Chum" -- his first solo single since his return -- Kgositsile eased himself back onto the scene with a number of collaborations. After live appearances and recordings with Odd Future, he made numerous guest appearances, most notably on Frank Ocean's acclaimed debut studio album channel ORANGE and Flying Lotus' summer single "Between Friends." To coincide with the release of "Chum," he announced that his next album would be titled Doris. Preceded by further singles "Whoa" and "Hive" -- featuring Tyler, The Creator and Vince Staples, respectively -- the album arrived in summer 2013. - Gregory Heaney for Allmusic.com

Mon 04/06 105.9 WXDX presents Coal Chamber with special guests Filter, Combichrist, American Head Charge, Saint RIdley 6:20pm All Ages
Coal Chamber broke out of the Los Angeles alternative metal scene in 1997 with a sound often compared to Korn, although both bands formed around the same time and are quality representations of the scene's overall sound -- the heavy, detuned guitars of the murkiest Black Sabbath, grungy, noisy textures reminiscent of White Zombie or Tool, the white-knuckle intensity of Pantera and hardcore punk, and perhaps a few hip-hop-influenced beats á la Biohazard. Coal Chamber was formed in 1994 by vocalist/lyricist B. Dez Fafara and guitarist Miguel "Meegs" Rascon, who met through a classified ad; the two added drummer Mike "Mikee" Cox and bassist Rayna Foss, the latter of whom heard about auditions through her roommate, Fafara's future wife. -Steve Huey, AllMusic.com

Tue 04/07 Alesana with special guests Capture the Crown, The Browning, Conquer Divide, The Funeral Portrait 6:30pm All Ages
Beginning in Baltimore and solidifying its lineup in Raleigh, NC, Alesana formed in October 2004 around guitarist/vocalist Shawn Milke, guitarist Patrick Thompson, vocalist Dennis Lee, bassist Steven Tomany, and drummer Daniel Magnuson. Their blend of post-hardcore and metal with pop hooks and earnest lyrics quickly turned Alesana into a fixture in their hometown scene, and they became the first signing to local indie Tragic Hero Records, releasing their debut EP, Try This with Your Eyes Closed, in mid-June 2005. Through word of mouth and Internet promotions, the album sold well online and created a buzz among screamo fans. Beefing up their sound, Alesana eventually added new drummer Jeremy Bryan and third guitarist/vocalist Adam Ferguson in time for their first U.S. tour, even playing a spot at the Cornerstone Festival. The album On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax appeared in summer 2006, and all of this activity ultimately led to a deal with California's Fearless Records by the year's end. The label then reissued On Frail Wings with new artwork and bonus features in March 2007.

Thu 04/09 Dan Deacon with special guests Prince Rama, Ben O'Brien 8:00pm All Ages
With the success of Dan Deacon’s 2007 album Spiderman of the Rings, came an opportunity for the electronic-music iconoclast to increase the breadth and depth of his entire musical project. Deacon moved from self-contained computer music to orchestral epics. His interactive live show, honed in DIY spaces, was taken to museums and concert halls. He frequently expanded his performances to include a horde of side musicians. Gliss Riffer, an entirely self-produced record of almost all electronic sounds, is a return to Deacon’s Spiderman of the Rings-era process. He calls it “easily the most fun [he’s] ever had making a record.” After a string of large ensemble projects (including 2009’s Bromst and 2012’s America) Deacon longed for the “simplicity” of the days when he did nearly everything himself. So he made plans to sequester himself in his studio and conjure an album from the sketches and songs he had begun in the back of the van on the European leg of the America tour. Those plans were upended when he received a last-minute invitation to tour with Arcade Fire in August. Rather than lose momentum by pushing back his recording schedule, Deacon continued to make the record on the road.

"Now that financial struggles are a thing of the past, I see clearly now, and what we've done is so miniscule to what we can do." With Battles' label Fly America artists including versatile L.A. rapper Derek Luh, this is a 22 year-old who has detoured the typical checkpoints to music industry stardom and gone directly for the audience.

Mon 04/13 WPTS Radio Presents Foxygen with special guest Alex Cameron 8:00pm All Ages
Foxygen and Star Power is the Los Angeles songwriting duo of 24-year-olds Sam France and Jonathan Rado. In May 2011, France and Rado nervously handed off a CD-R of this homemade mini-opus Take the Kids Off Broadway (Jagjaguwar, 2012) to producer and visionary Richard Swift after his performance in a Lower East Side club. The duo, who had just mixed and burned the disc that very night, had been devotees of Swift’s outsider-pop oeuvre since high school, when they first began recording their own pubescent forays into oddball rock n’ roll (At least a dozen records were finished before they graduated high school).

Tue 04/14 GRiZ with special guests The Floozies, Artiftakts 7:30pm All Ages
Today at age 24, GRiZ (or Grant Kwiecinski, to his mom) is already being hailed as visionary. This spring, he’ll release Say It Loud (via his All Good Records imprint), a follow-up to its more funk-step predecessors, Rebel Era and Mad Liberation. With assists from rapper Talib Kweli, Afrobeat-group Antibalas, the L.A.’s Children’s Chorus, and others, his new full-length finds a golden mean between an abundance of brass instruments, liberal use of soulful vocals, and shimmering, synth beats.

Fri 04/17 TheUntz.com Presents theNEWDEAL with special guests Tenova, Syneater b2b Eryn Evans 8:00pm All Ages
“It feels like the right time for us to be playing together again”, says bassist Dan Kurtz. “theNEWDEAL needed some time to find some new musical inspiration and get some perspective on what is important about what, and how, we play together”. theNEWDEAL first began in Toronto in 1999, and came up through the American Jam scene in the decade that followed. Since the theNEWDEAL's beginning, it has been hard to categorize this band, which shows in the wide range of artists that they have played with (Everyone from Herbie Hancock to the Roots, from Moby to Fatboy Slim). A long-time staple of the Jam scene, theNEWDEAL’s improvisational interpretation of Electro House, Trance, Breakbeat and Drum & Bass has brought traditionally electronic music to the live music scene, adding a “human element” and vibrance that can sometimes get lost in the sea of computerized perfection.

91.3 WYEP presents Shakey Graves with special guest David Ramirez
9:00pm All Ages
“The first album was me wanting to burn down my life, cut my hair off, and run screaming into the woods,” says Alejandro Rose-Garcia. “This album is the trials and tribulations of becoming domesticated, letting people into your world and letting go of selfishness—the story of becoming a pair, losing that, and reconciling with the loss and gain of love.” Rose-Garcia is professionally known as Shakey Graves, and with his new record, And the War Came, he extends the ground—emotionally and sonically—broken by his 2011 self-released debut album, Roll the Bones, which brought him national acclaim and, three years later, still ranks near the top of Bandcamp’s digital best-seller charts.

Wed 04/22 The Waterboys with special guests Connor Kennedy & Minstrel 8:00pm All Ages
“People should expect the unexpected from The Waterboys,” says Mike Scott, a grin in his voice. It’s a mission statement which has inspired three decades of compelling musical shape-shifting, and one which yields thrilling results on The Waterboys’ magnificent eleventh album. Recorded in Nashville, Modern Blues is an electric, eclectic, soulful, bold and gloriously freewheeling rock'n'roll record, arriving at a time when the relevance and popular reach of The Waterboys has never been greater. In 2013 Ellie Goulding scored a top 3 UK hit with their “How Long Will I Love You” and earlier this year Prince performed “The Whole of the Moon” solo at the piano during his Hit + Run show at Ronnie Scott’s in London, while the same song was performed by finalist Sally Barker on primetime BBC 1 show The Voice. In recent times “A Pagan Place” has become a live staple for hot US indie band The War on Drugs and Waterboys’ songs have been used in movies like About Time, Dom Hemingway and What We Did On Our Holiday.

Mon 04/27 Butch Walker with special guest Jonathan Tyler 8:00pm All Ages
"man... Bios kinda suck. I've been doing these things for so long now, that I feel like just when I have written the mother of all things informative and maybe funny, I go and record a new record. Why does shit always have to evolve and the information change every time another year goes by? Why, since the last bio (which I felt was an understated masterpiece) did I have to go and do shit to deem it necessary for an update? Just because between the last album, "I Liked it Better When You Had No Heart" and now, I have: shot a video for "Pretty Melody" from the album ILIBWYHNH, wore a tv on my head in it and fought ninjas, got it featured on YouTube and it got a half million views, did a sold out headlining tour of the states last year, supported Train on a sold out tour of the states, then went and supported Pink on a sold out stadium tour of Europe all summer, including sold out headlining club shows of our own over there." - Butch Walker

Tue 04/28 Circa Survive with special guests Balance & Composure, Chon 8:00pm All Ages
Circa Survive, the progressive 5-piece rock band from Doylestown, Pennsylvania self-produced their fourth album Violent Waves at Studio 4 in suburban Philadelphia. For the release, the band developed a new method of self-releasing their records, having previously recorded for Equal Vision and Atlantic Records and sold a half-million albums in the process. Circa Survive has always prided themselves on the extraordinary relationship they have with their fans - this new release model allows them to push the self-release paradigm one step further. “Collectively we've run the gamut from working with really small DIY labels to big indies all the way to a major label," noted guitarist Colin Frangicetto. “The band has learned a ton from each of those experiences and at this point feel confident in our ability to successfully produce, release and promote a record on our own. There's really nothing more satisfying to us then bringing our vision to the world in this way.”
