August 11-15, 2008 - REAL.LIFE.SKATE CAMP!
Mr. Smalls Skatepark's fifth annual REAL.LIFE.SKATE CAMP will once again be held August 11th-15th, 2008 at Mr. Smalls Skatepark, located in the Millvale Riverfront Park. The newly redesigned park has an in-depth street course with a great variety of ramps for skateboarding, in-line skating and freestyle biking. Our program is modeled after that of Woodward Camp, the premier extreme sports camp in the country, which was developed and directed for 10 years by Mr. Smalls' President and Ownder, Mike Speranzo. This one-week intensive for Skate, In-Line & Freestyle Bikers will be instructed by our staff and visiting pros including none other than pro inline legend Chris Edwards and up and coming skateboarder Evan Smith. There will be Pro demos and amateur events for every skill level and prizes provided by many sponsors and skate companies.
The Xtravaganza is back! Pittsburgh’s premiere action sports event of the summer – Smalls Summer Xtravaganza- is taking place on July 25th and 26th at the newly redesigned Mr. Smalls SkatePark in Millvale, PA! Mr. Smalls and 105.9 The X are heating up the competition this year by bringing in Pros to battle alongside amateurs for cash and prizes in the annual skateboarding, freestyle BMX and inline contests. Combined with live music and a slammin’ party, Smalls Summer Xtravaganza will be a two-day festival unlike Pittsburgh has ever seen!
Think you have what it takes to compete against the pros? Then, come out to the Smalls Summer Xtravaganza qualifier rounds on Friday July 25th for a chance to compete in Saturday’s Skateboarding, BMX or inline Pro/Am contests. These qualifiers are open to the public! That means everyone has a chance to skate, bike or blade their way into Saturday’s contest against the invited and qualifying pros.
Then, if you’re ready to relax and let loose after a hard day of skating, biking and blading, head over to Mr. Smalls Theatre for the first ever Smalls Summer Xtravaganza Party! This public event (cover charge applies) will take place on the night of Friday the 25th, directly after the qualifier rounds. Participants and fans will get a chance to unwind and gear up for the next day with live DJs and a cash bar (for those 21+), while also getting to know fellow riders and industry professionals all in the distinctive setting of Mr. Smalls Theatre.
The weekend will then culminate in the main event…Smalls Summer Xtravaganza! Come down to the SkatePark on Saturday July 26th to see riders compete in the first ever Mr. Smalls SkatePark Pro/Am contest! Watch as amateurs and pros battle it out on the ramps while listening to live music from a line-up of Pittsburgh’s talented bands and DJs and enjoying food and entertainment from a variety of on-hand sponsors and vendors. In order to make your Xtravaganza experience extraordinary, Mr. Smalls will also be offering a limited number of V.I.P. SkatePark passes. This event will surely be a one of a kind experience, so don’t miss out!

Mr. Small's Skate Park, located in Millvale at the Riverfront park (three blocks from the Theatre), has been completely re-designed and re-built for the 2008 summer season. It's way better than ever!
MR.SMALLS WELCOMES CHRIS EDWARDS TO THE FOLD... Every sport has its innovators, champions, and full fledged superstars, in the world of Inline Skating, one name comes to mind, Chris Edwards. He is the first person to ever grind down a handrail. He is the first person to ever break the 10 foot line on a vert ramp. He is the inaugural X-Games gold medalist for High Air and the only athlete to take a medal in both park and vert in the same year, 2 years in a row. Chris Edwards is truly the godfather of aggressive inline skating, the ultimate combination of pioneer and superstar in a sport he helped put on the map. In his 20 years of experience, Chris's enormous popularity can be directly attributed to his fearless craft on the skate and his passionate promoting of the freestyle rolling movement.
Chris Edwards, the ultimate ambassador of aggressive inline skating, is now a proud member of the Mr. Smalls team and we couldn't be more thrilled. As the Program Director for Mr. Smalls Skate-park, Chris Edwards will use his expertise in the world of action sports in conjunction with Mike Speranzo (former pro vert skateboarder and Smalls Owner) and up-and-comer Evan Smith (street skateboarder) to develop dynamic programming for Pittsburgh's action sport culture including bi-weekly camps and contests. Chris's mission to teach and promote action sports in Pittsburgh fits right in to the philosophy of Mr. Smalls, and together the two will broaden the horizons of Pittsburgh's rolling culture.
